“ Best tamales! I am originally from El Paso but moved to Albuquerque in 2010. I stop and pick up a few dozen when I visit and freeze them for later. ”
“ Riquísimos tamales, mis favoritos son los de rajas con queso y los de chile verde. No están secos, tienen muy buen tamaño y el relleno perfecto. No compras masa seca, como en otros lugares. ”
“ Their tamales and champurrado are amazing! We've tried different locations in El Paso but this one for sure takes the throne. Even if there's a line of 10+ people they are very well prepared, awesome customer service as well. ”
“ I like that place, always consistent and the entire menus is fantastic. If you absolutely need the best food for an occasion then they are always a safe bet. ”
“ So bummed that they were closed when I was in El Paso (Easter weekend) but I understand. This place has the best tamales in the world. Hands down. Can't say more than that! ”
“ My brother in law always brings us menudo and chicharrones from Lupita's Tamales but this is the first time I've gone there. I've always been intimidated by the lack of parking and the long lines. Today I was heading back with hubby's car from the auto body shop in Canutillo and I saw there wasn't a wait at 10:00 a.m. I found parking in front and was surprised that the seating was outside. It makes sense once you get inside because every square inch is covered in sodas and goodies. Chicharrones piled up in the display cases, trotters, tamales, bunuelos, etc. The Mexican Cokes were the big ones 500ml from Mexico and only $2.60 each, the smaller normal size was $2, so no brainier to get the big ones. There were helpers that spoke English and they take credit cards, so even though the food is super traditional and it looks like a hole in the wall, don't be fooled..this is a well run modern operation. I got a half dozen because it was cheaper at $1.67/each than getting an individual one at $1.75/each. It's a wash after that, but people seemed to order a dozen at a time. The prices came out to be higher though than advertised with my tamales at $10.40 and that's before they added the tax. It's not much but it's a pet peeve when the prices aren't what's advertised. I'm not sure if that's a credit card fee because it seemed like the cash price as well. In any, case, I got half a dozen with 2 each of the Rojo w/Puerco, Verde w/Pollo, and Chile w/Queso. I also got 2 burritos at $3 a pop (barbacoa and chicharrones), 1 lb of chicharrone nubs, and 2 large Mexican Cokes came out to be after taxes $25.01. Not bad for a lot of food. The trio of which I shall now dub the Three Kings, because they were bursting with meat in the middle, was warm and moist. The Chile one spilled over so it looked like it was hollow, but trust me, it overflowed the edges and got messy. I don't know what the reviews are saying about the meat to masa ratio being small because definitely isn't. The only thing I would fault them for is not having a lot of flavor, it was sort of bland. I don't know. I only eat pasteles for Christmas and they eat it with ketchup. Am I supposed to have salsa on the tamales? The barbacoa was greasy. I think Los Primos is still my favorite barbacoa and it's down the street. The chicharron burrito was exceptionally good, one of the best flavored ones I've had, and honestly that's all I really eat when I order burritos here in El Paso so I've eaten a lot. Definitely go try it and enjoy a local legend and favorite. There's a whole lot of love, labor, and lard in each tamal. I really appreciate that I can get them easily all year round because of their hard work. Go out and support local! “ Holy crap. The wait might scare you at first, but stick it through and know you will be the rockstar for your family. The tamales here are so stupid delicious, that you'll honestly regret you didn't order more while you're here. My favorite are the red, but make sure to grab some of their raja con queso tamales! I recommend doubling your order. For real, just double your order! ”
